The People’s Democratic Congress (PDC)
The People’s Democratic Congress (PDC) is a PARTY that was formed in January 2005. It evolved out of the Society For Mass Freedom and Democracy (SMFD), which is its parent body. SMFD was instrumental in the coming about of PDC for two MAJOR reasons: (1) For all the time SMFD would have been – previous to the coming about of PDC - putting forward social, political, financial and material based measures, policies and programs for the further development of Barbados, it really did NOT have, and because it was never intended to be otherwise, that CONSTITUTIONAL STRUCTURE to give proper effect, esp. at the national level, to these same measures, policies and programs. This meant there did NOT exist in the Society an implementation capability, a central organizing capability, and, further more, a PARTY capability necessary to help plan for and achieve the winning of government, which is itself necessary if most of these said policies, measures and programs are to be actually implemented by members of SMFD/ PDC, in the future. Hence, instead of implanting the Society with such capabilities, the plan, since about 2001, was to create in the long run a PARTY with those capabilities; with its actual materialization being in fulfillment of the long-standing dream of some people to envision the founding of SMFD, then to actually have founded and established it (SMFD), which has been done, and then, finally, to have this PARTY - PDC, emerge out of SMFD, though at the time of the founding of SMFD, this PARTY was NOT yet named. (2) The historical fact of some members of SMFD having to tell, on so many previous occasions when going across the country to market and promote SMFD, hundreds upon hundreds of Barbadians that it was NOT a PARTY and that it did NOT have leaders, and having to be really met with robust responses from many of them urging those members of the Society to form a PARTY and to have a political leader, meant that SMFD had to listen to and take note of the advice and suggestions of these persons – very much because of the genuineness of their views and the objective fact of knowing - that the PARTY culture is very entrenched in Barbados. This being the case, it certainly did not take a Herculean effort for members of SMFD to understand that there could only be substantial success in politics and government in Barbados, if and only if there was a serious people-focused national developmentalist PARTY formed out of the Society, and, too, that once this PARTY was formed and a political, social, business and financial foundation laid, there would be no doubt as to the reinforcement of the reasonableness of the political direction in which many members of the Society had hitherto been prepared to go in (to create PDC), even given the very negative perception these members would have had, and still do have, about the party culture in Barbados. And so, by judging these earlier positions and changes, some of which would have led to the actual formation and maintaining of this PARTY - PDC, it is clearly now being proved that these members would have demonstrated a very good sense of political strategy and organization in greatly helping to bring about this PARTY, given the fact that thousands upon thousands of Barbadians would have been long clamoring for at least a third party, which we really are – NOT the PEP – and they are the fourth party – and therefore would have been recognizing the People’s Democratic Congress (PDC) as a political force to be reckoned with in the lead up to the Next Elections and beyond.
The People’s Democratic Congress is a people-focused national developmentalist party. It is a party of individuals that share certain common political, social, financial and other perspectives and values, and who, in spite of that fact, are permitted to differ with one another on any thing. It is a party of individuals of various social, racial, class, religious, professional and other backgrounds. PDC believes in sound democratic and responsible planning and building for itself and for the country. It is fundamentally committed to the elimination of elite/state political exploitation of the masses and middle classes of people of Barbados.
We in PDC are therefore very steadfast in our positions that Barbados must provide greater equality and justice, greater freedom and responsibility, and more cohesion and integration for its people. We in PDC are also very committed to the fullest growth and development possible of the people and the different sectors of Barbados, in as much as it is our vision and mission to see that Barbados becomes a world class society of its own and based on its own standards. Ultimately, our quest is to at election time win the government of this country, and, thereafter, to institute the policies, measures and programs that are reflective of and consistent with the above and other expressions and articulations. Please see our pre-Election Manifesto on this website or by obtaining a CD copy of it from any of our members, for further details.
The People’s Democratic Congress is a party that does NOT have a written constitution, even though important decisions, actions/omissions, policies, programs of the party will be guided and reinforced by the rational democratic process. However, such decisions, actions/omissions, policies, programs of the party, when deliberated upon by members of the party, and, furthermore, when agreed to by the majority of members present at meetings called and held to determine such, must henceforward be seen, observed and, if necessary, be followed by the entire membership of PDC as the decisions, actions/omissions, policies, programs, structures, etc. of our party.
The main slogan of the party is: Partnerships People Sovereignty.
The Political Leader and President of the Executive of the party is Mr. Mark Adamson, and the Deputy Political Leader and Vice President of the Executive – an unnamed individual (case sensitive), with the Treasurer being Mr. Christopher McClean, and the Secretary – an unnamed individual (case sensitive).
